Forty-seven years on the same block of Central Avenue. The Cheese Store has been part of Cedarhurst's daily rhythm since 1977 — quietly making cheesecakes, plating cheese boards, and brewing iced coffee for the families that built the Five Towns into what it is today.
The Story
Forty-seven years on Central Avenue
The Cheese Store opened in 1977 in a small storefront on Central Avenue, and it has been there ever since. Same block, same address, same business of feeding a community that takes its food seriously. What started as a kosher cheese counter has grown into a full dairy operation — cheesecakes baked fresh for every holiday, cheese boards plated to order, charcuterie cured the way it should be, and iced coffee that has acquired a fan club of its own.
The reason we're still here, decades after the wave of similar shops opened and closed around us, isn't a secret. We make things by hand, we stay Vaad certified, and we treat the people who walk through the door the same way we would treat someone we'd be seeing again next week — because we usually are. The Five Towns is small enough that reputation matters, and big enough that we've had to keep earning it.
Today we still operate from the same Cedarhurst storefront. We ship our bottled iced coffee nationwide, we cater events from sheva brachot to corporate breakfasts, and we wholesale to other specialty grocers who want to stock our blends. But the heart of what we do hasn't changed: a real store with a real case, in a real neighborhood, run by people who care.
